Ultimate Paris Packing Guide

Planning a trip to Paris and have no idea what to pack? When you think of Paris you think chic, high fashion. Parisian dress is elevated, even to go to the grocery store. No sweats or leggings, unless you’re actually going to workout. Packing for Paris shouldn’t be difficult. Think classic neutral colors, with some edge to it.

A lot of your packing needs, will of course depend on your plans. We are pretty casual. Our last trip we went to Moulin Rouge so I took a more elegant dress for that evening. Otherwise, I keep it simple. Here are some good basics for your Paris capsule wardrobe that can be applied anywhere to keep you looking chic and polished.

Paris Wardrobe Staples

Tops

First off, a basic white button down shirt that can be dressed up or down and be paired with literally everything. Great for layering, as you could throw a sweater over it or tie around your neck.

Next up, a classic black and white striped crewneck t-shirt . Just don’t add a red beret with it. Great for layering days. Also add in a basic cami and t-shirts to throw under your blazers and tweed jacket.

I absolutely love a camel sweater. Elevates any look. This one is lightweight and can be worn year round. Black, white, or gray would be great staples as well.

Bottoms

Some cute and comfy denim is a must. I always take some black denim and classic blue denim.

A nice pair of trousers can be dressed up or kept casual and still be chic and on trend even with sneakers!

Blazers and Coats

A blazer to keep you warm and looking good. I love my basic black blazer but I have been wearing my plaid blazer more and more lately.

I never leave for Paris without my trench coat. Even during the warmer months, it is cool in the mornings and evenings. We usually travel in May and I always need my trench. The weather is all over the place.

Shoes

Shoes…You will be doing a lot of walking. We average 9-12 miles a day when we are there. You don’t see many women wearing high heels. Lots of cobblestone streets to navigate , so you want to be comfortable. I always take my Adidas. Always. They go with everything. I will usually add in some Chelsea boots for rainy days or going out at night. I have some Dr. Martens. They have a chunky heel and are comfy, just make sure they are broken in ahead of time. If you have room you could opt for some loafers or ballet flats.

Extras

A flowy dress or skirt might go in my bag. Always have a scarf with you. Carry a cute crossbody, I love my YSL. A crossbody is easier to keep in front of you to avoid theft. Keep the jewelry simple with some gold hoops and simple chain. A baseball cap for rainy days, I love my YSL or Anine Bing. Take a travel umbrella, again the weather is a little unpredictable at times. Chic sunglasses are a must. Don’t forget that signature red lipstick!

Sticking to a neutral color palette will help you be able to mix and match more outfits and keep items to a minimum. This means just a carry-on! Wear your biggest items on the plane, like your boots and your coat if possible. This will save more room in your luggage to bring back treasures.
