Jamaica – Beautiful Beaches and Friendly People

In need of a tropical vacay? My favorite Caribbean destination is Jamaica and for good reason. Known for the relaxed island vibe, friendly people, and beautiful beaches it just doesn’t get much better.

Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean with a population of just under 3 million people. Kingston, the largest city on the island is also the capital city. The Blue Mountains, in the eastern part of the island, are known for their coffee production and reach heights of over 7,000 feet. Make sure to have some Blue Mountain Coffee while you are there!

Cultural and Historical

There are so many things to do on the island. Nestled in the mountains of St. Ann Parish, Fans of Bob Marley can visit 9 Mile and the Bob Marley Mausoleum. Visit his birthplace, his childhood home and where he is laid to rest. There is also a lot of wonderful memorabilia like guitars, records and his piano. Learn about the life and music of one of Jamaica’s most influential figures.

Nature

If you’re up for a challenge climb Dunn’s River Falls near Ocho Rios. The cascading waterfall is beautiful, surrounded by the tropical landscape. Spend time relaxing on the beaching Montego Bay with a drink at Margaritaville. This beachfront hotspot offers something for everyone!

My bucket list check was to swim in the Luminous Lagoon. This bioluminescent bay is in Falmouth, Jamaica. They will take you out for a swim once the sun goes down. It really is quite magical to see. This bioluminescent bay illuminates at night as microscopic organisms emit a blue-green glow when disturbed. Be advised, the water was cold and you really had to work hard to kick up the organisms.

Iconic

Of course, no trip to Jamaica is complete without visiting world famous Rick’s Cafe, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Get there early, grab a drink, enjoy listening to some reggae music, and get ready for an amazing cliff diving show. Then, sit back and take in the Jamaican sunset. For breathtaking sunsets and cliff diving adventures, Ricks Cafe is an iconic spot in Negril. Enjoy Ricks Cafe and Margaritaville with a sunset catamaran cruise from 7 Mile Beach!

Where to Stay

Jamaica has many all inclusive resorts to choose from. While staying in Negril we stayed at the Riu Tropical Bay Palace on Seven Mile Beach. Wonderful service, beautiful beach, great location. While in Montego Bay we stayed at the Hilton Rose Hall. I absolutely loved it here. It was in a bay, so the water was always calm. I have to tell you, I could have spent every day at the water slides and lazy river. They were so much fun! I felt like a kid again. There was also a golf course if you wanted to get in a round. The drinks at the bar were amazing too. The Bob Marley was my favorite.

Whether you’re interested in immersing yourself in reggae history or exploring Jamaica’s natural wonders, Negril and Montego Bay should be on your list with their beauty and rich cultural heritage. With its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, Jamaica is a dream destination.
