Isla Mujeres, Mexico – The Perfect Day Trip From Cancun
If you’ve ever been to Cancun, I’m sure you’ve heard of Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women. The island sits just off the coast of Cancun and it is the perfect day trip if you want to get away! You can choose to take an excursion or just take the ferry. We have done both.

Getting There
The Ultramar Ferry Picks up from downtown Cancun at Puerto Juarez roughly every 30 minutes. You can check out the ferry schedule and rates here. Get a seat up top and enjoy the views. The ride is only about 15 minutes.
If you choose, you can do a tour that includes snorkeling at the underwater sculpture museum, MUSA. We have tried this once and the weather did not cooperate. My daughter went recently and was able to snorkel. Unfortunately, she did not get any pics. You can also snorkel MUSA from Isla Mujeres.
This is a very laid back island. I recommend getting a golf cart. This is definitely the best way to explore the island. It is so much fun. I believe they were around $45 for the day.
Look for the famous sea shell house as you are driving down the east side of the island. You really can’t miss it!
Beautiful Views
Head south towards Punta Sur for the most breathtaking cliff views. You’ll find some Mayan ruins, Temple Ixchel, and lots of iguanas too.
Amazing Beaches
When you turn in your golf cart you can do a little souvenir shopping in town and then hit the beach. Back North, Playa Norte is one of the most beautiful beaches you will find. White sand and crystal clear water you will not want to leave. That’s why I recommend doing this last.
If you are visiting in season, June through September, you might want to swim with the whale sharks. This is on my bucket list and I just might be able to make it happen this year.
