Hacienda Guachipelin Activities
Zip Lining: I was not brave enough, but my daughter can’t stop talking about how amazing it was. They even let her go upside down…bucket list check! The Canyon Canopy Tours have zip lines, rappelling, and rock climbing.
Tubing: Tube the Rio Negro. Navigate through Class II and III rapids, surrounded by lush rainforest and impressive rock formations. We even saw some monkeys! This was the most fun I have had in a long time. The highlight of my trip! Bucket list check!
Hot Springs: Looking to relax? Unwind in the natural hot springs. The volcanic activity in the area heats the waters. Some of them were over 100 degrees. We stuck to the ones that were around 92-94 degrees. The thermal pools are set in a secluded forested area with stunning views from the hanging bridges. We were the only ones there at the time, it was so peaceful. While you’re there indulge in a volcanic mud bath, known for its therapeutic properties. Rinse off in the cold river. There are bathrooms and changing areas for convenience. This was so tranquil and relaxing.
All activities are booked through the adventure center that is open from 8-5.
Hacienda Guachipelin Hiking and Waterfalls
Right across from the hot springs are the Rio Negro Waterfalls. There is a path leading to the 3 main waterfalls, but you can keep going for a longer hike.
There are miles of trails for hiking around the park that lead to different waterfalls and pools. Oropendola is the tallest waterfall, located next to the National Park entrance. Make sure to check out La Victoria and Las Chorreras waterfalls, as well as the different ponds.
They also offer horesback riding from 8:30 to 3pm. I wanted to try the horseback riding but our time there was up.
You can rent bikes to take on the trails if you prefer not to hike.
Costa Rica is famous for its eco tourism and biodiversity. There are guided bird watching tours. We were able to spot many birds and monkeys on our hikes to the waterfalls.
Hacienda Guachipelin Eats and Drinks
There are two main restaurants, La Hacienda and Nekajui, as well as The Canopy Bar, and Rincon Del Cafe and Coffee Shop by the pool. The bar and pastry shop both offered food menus as well. Breakfast and lunch were open seating, but you must make reservations for dinnertime.
Speaking with the front desk and restaurant staff, I was told all but a couple of menu items were gluten free. The pizza, pasta, veggie burgers were all gluten free. The entire breakfast buffet was gluten free. It was a dream. The chocolate cake at the pastry bar was to die for! It was a celiac’s dream to be able to eat without worry. Scroll through all of the amazing meals I had!
Hacienda Guachipelin Accommodations
Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin has 79 of the most charming cabins surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Everything inside was clean, modern, and comfortable. Only had one creepy crawly come in at night. The rooms were very spacious and the patio overlooked the rainforest and volcano. The front patio had a hammock for lounging. AC and WiFi worked great. The pool area was really lovely.
Extras
There are onsite shuttles that will take you to and from your different destinations around the park. However, they do not run often, about every 3 hours. I do wish there was more availability. If you have your own car you can drive yourself. Waterfalls, hiking, hot springs are included with your stay. You have to pay for other adventures such as zip lining, river tubing, horseback riding, etc. Towels available at the front desk.
If you aren’t staying at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, you can also buy day passes to enjoy the different activities that the resort has to offer.
Overall our stay here was wonderful. We stayed 3 nights and that was enough to do most of what we wanted to do. Although, I would have liked one more night. Maybe next time!
